Shadowsocks

Installs the pinned shadowsocks-rust release, writes /etc/shadowsocks-rust/config.json (mode 600), runs ssserver as a sandboxed systemd service and opens the chosen port in ufw when ufw is active. Safe to run again: an existing password is kept.

What you will be asked

You fill these in during setup.

  • Proxy port port RequiredAdvanced settings
    The port the proxy port listens on. The default is fine unless another service already uses it.
  • Encryption method RequiredAdvanced settings
    aes-256-gcm works with every client. chacha20-ietf-poly1305 is faster on phones without AES hardware.
  • Password Made for you if left emptyAdvanced settings
    The password clients use. Leave empty to generate one; it is shown once when the run finishes and kept in the config file for later runs.
